A part of the South-Western Region of Vietnam, Dong Thap is a province with a highly developed agriculture industry. It adjoins Cambodia to the North with 4 border gates (Thong Binh, Dinh Ba, My Can, ThuongPhuoc), Vinh Long Province and Can Tho City to the South, An Giang Province to the West, and Long An plus TienGiang Provinces to the East. The capital city of Dong Thap is Cao Lanh, which located 162km away from Ho Chi Minh City. With a total area of 3376.4 km2 and a population of 1667.8 thousand people (2006), this is one of the most important provinces in southern Vietnam.

A typical province in the Cuu Long Delta, Dong Thap has a complex system of rivers, channels, springs, as well as big lakes and ponds. With a length of 132km, Tien River is the biggest river there, along which many channels are built to transport water to the fields. In a nutshell, taking advantages of its large water body, Dong Thap has developed a very convenient transportation system.

Dong Thap has a typical tropical climate with 2 distinctive seasons: the rainy season from May to November and the dried season from December to April. The annual average temperature is pretty high, around 26.6oC.

As it is an agriculture-focused province, Dong Thap produces many valuable types of rice, poultry, and seafood. The land there is extremely fat because it receives a lot of alluvium from Tien River and Hai River, allowing the province to grow many kinds of tropical fruits. Some of the most famous ones are Cao Lanh mangoes, ChauThanhlongans, Lai Vung mandarins, PhongHoa grape fruits, etc. Dong Thap has been famous its diverse and precious ecosystem which houses many endangered wild animals.

Nowadays, the most popular sceneries that you might encounter in Dong Thap are borderless rice fields and the peaceful boats floating on the channels.
